 I may have been a late bloomer : ) 

My reduction of single-use plastics deepened during the pandemic when I saw a social media ad from Earth Breeze, makers of eco-friendly laundry detergent sheets, which talked about how laundry detergent is mostly formulated with water and stored in heavy plastic jugs which end up in the landfill at an alarming rate and volume. Those plastic containers support the weight and volume of liquid detergent which is then transported in large, fuel-consuming trucks across the country. It all seemed so unnecessary and I immediately wanted to make a change. I tested Earth Breeze's eco-friendly, dehydrated laundry detergent sheets and I was so glad that I did! 

I loved them! 

Then, I thought about most liquid shampoo with harsh chemicals, and in plastic bottles .... and knew I could do something about that, too! 

I began to try several solid shampoo bars, but not one of them satisfied my desire for naturally derived ingredients and eco-friendly packaging. Many of them were green washing me, a marketing tactic used by companies in which "green" symbology and language appears on products to make consumers believe that product to be either environmentally friendly, and "good" for us. It's a diversion tactic, to make us believe we're buying something earth-friendly. 

So I began researching and experimenting with 

making my own solid shampoo bar.

I realized I could make one- a very good one- and arrived at a formula with awesome ingredients (and smart packaging!) that makes sense to me.
